Good morning, I’m Mary Corley and I am honored to speak with you.
I see a lot of friendly faces. It is hard to condense a life time into a few minutes so I will just share some thoughts. This church has always been a part of my life. I attended Sunday School and/or church service every Sunday. EVERY SUNDAY. It was important to my Mom that we be here every Sunday. It is how we “stay in touch with God” she said.
I sincerely believe that staying in touch with God is a great source of strength, comfort, encouragement and Joy for me. I am uplifted by the beauty of this sanctuary, which replaced the one in which I grew up: The Church of the Ascension, where I was baptized and confirmed and years later, married. I have tried to serve over the years: Sunday school and Nursery teacher, choir and Altar Guild, ECW – too many Rummage Sales, Bazaars, luncheons to remember, except for the fellowship of working together to raise funds and just have fun! Then nine years on Vestry, where I ultimately served as warden – both Jr. and Sr.
I will never say there weren’t frustrations, but I grew with each job and definitely stayed in touch with God. Now in what remains of my time on earth, I will be grateful for this wonderful, warm and welcoming place by offering my time and talent in any way I can. And of course my financial support, because how else can we guarantee this holy space for the future. When I come to church I always appreciate the connections made here. It is where I greet dear friends, get updates on Parishioners’ health issues, and hear about important events and activities coming up. But best of all, I hear my Mom encouraging me to STAY IN TOUCH WITH GOD. I hear you Mom! AMEN AND THANK YOU.
