The music ministry at Ascension and Holy Trinity offers several opportunities for parishioners who would like to offer their talents to the Glory of God. Please know that all are welcome to participate. Feel free to speak with me if you are interested.
Also, your contribution to these ministries need not be an all-or-nothing commitment. For example, you may want to only commit to a specific season (such as Advent) or a specific service (such as Easter Sunday). This is fine and you will be more than welcome to join us then.
The Chancel Choir meets on most Thursday evenings from September through May 26 at 7:30- 9pm. We regularly provide anthems and assist in leading the music for our Sunday morning liturgies and additional services such as the Advent Carol service, Christmas Eve, the Triduum and Evensong. While the Anglican tradition greatly informs the repertoire selections, a variety of anthems from several musical eras and traditions are also represented. With the aid of our section leaders, four paid professional vocalists supported by the parish, the choir is able to continually grow musically and offer anthems of a high quality.
The Summer Choir is offered on three select Sundays from July through August. It is open to all parishioners who simply like to sing! This is a very low-key affair with easy anthems (often in unison or two parts) that can be learned in just minutes. We rehearse just prior to the scheduled service at 9:15am.. During the liturgy, choristers may be seated in the pews. After The Peace, you will gather in the ‘choir cave’, sing the anthem, and then return to your pew after receiving communion. Very simple and casual!
The Handbell Choir rehearses from October through May after select Sunday morning worship services from 11:20am-noon. We ring for 4-5 liturgies throughout the year including Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday. A basic knowledge of musical notation is required. However, I will often write arrangements catered to the ringers present. We are very fortunate to utilize our three-octave set of Schulmerich Bells now for the third consecutive season.
